Watershed Water Science!

Hooray for precipitation!  Perfectly timed, icy rain began to fall as the Dragons created mini watershed models to better understand the water cycle, watersheds, and acequias.

We were lucky to get snow the next day, so we piled some on top of the model mountains to see what that mountain snow does as the weather warms.

2nd Grade Book Pride!

After working hard for weeks, the Dragons got to publish and show off their nonfiction books to family and friends.  We hosted a "Meet the Author" event on Thursday, February 15th.  The Dragons spent the day practicing reading their books, getting the room ready, and (for a few perfectionist and slow pokes) putting the finishing touches on their books.   It was wonderful to see the sense of accomplishment many felt after working hard on a project and finally finishing it.  Some of the kiddos literally danced with joy while holding their newly published books.

Lots and lots of reading practice...

Before the event, the Dragons chilled in their presentation spots.  I'm not sure who started the trend, but someone turned their author sign around and wrote "closed", soon, everyone had some version of that on the back of their sign for the "off hours"...including the hilarious "out of boosniss".

While hosting the event, however, the Dragons were mostly gracious!

Keeping track of visitors to their "booth"...

The kindergartners made the authors book awards!

Spreadin' the Love on Valentine's Day!

The Dragons spread the love this Valentine's by making lots of cards for the seniors at the Living Center!

We had a Valentine production factory going on for a week and a half!

Our party was so fun thanks to parent visitors Viktoria Romero (D'Andre's mom) and Lisa Sanchz (Angelique's mom)!  They brought the fun and games: here are some pictures of the Stacking Hearts Challenge!  Thank you to all the families that sent yummy treats!

....and drum roll please....  the handing out of the Valentines.

...and some random karaoke pictures from earlier this week!

Jennie and the Fortune Tellers!

We enjoyed having Khalifa's mom, Jennie, in our class for a few days last week.  Jennie brings her experience from years of working with kids.  She's kind, fun, and has lots of little interesting tricks like fortune tellers!   The kids loved making and using them to answer their friends' questions.  (.....and, bonus, fortune tellers inherently practice spelling, math, and coordination!) Thank you, Jennie!
