Water Cycle Art and Science in 2nd!

Right before Spring Break the Dragons did lots of art and science inspired by the water cycle.  Here are a couple of groups showing their mini water cycles that we taped to our window. As the sun heated the water, evaporation, condensation, and even a bit of precipitation ensued inside the baggies.

Some more fun science: we made it "rain" in a jar!  This was a great way to demonstrate that, as the condensation builds up in a cloud, it gets heavy and precipitation happens.  It's also a fun way to have the kids keep using the word "precipitation".  The first step was to pile a shaving cream cloud on top of water...

The next step was to hypothesize how many drops of water it would take to make the "cloud" precipitate!

And, finally, the Dragons got to make it rain.  They added blue-colored water with an eye dropper (always fun) to the "cloud".

They also did a large painting of the water cycle.  The creativity was flowing like a river!

New Mexico Foods Potluck!

What a treat to have Margaret Garcia of Taos Real Foods visit our class.  She gave a beautiful talk about foods of New Mexico: growing, harvesting, and eating!  While she talked, the Dragons and company ate plates of delicious New Mexican food.  Thank you to everyone who contributed to our potluck.  Thank you to Margaret Garcia for sharing your knowledge with us!

Read-o-Rama!

The Dragons read like nobody's business for the TISA Annual Read-a-Thon!  There were jammies, breakfast treats (even green eggs and ham!), and lots and lots of reading time.  Thank you to all of the parents who came to help read, sent in snacks, and helped their kiddos find sponsors.  All of the read-a-thon proceeds go to an amazingr 2nd grade field trip!  Woot!  Reading rocks...and pays!
