Thanks to 4 awesome 8th grade helpers, the 2nd graders finished off the week before fall break with a round of geology centers. The 8th graders each lead a center in which my young geologists weighed and measured the diameter of rocks, searched for minerals in rocks, and tested the properties of rocks. It, well, rocked!

Geology Rocks in 2nd Grade!
The study of our planet Earth is volcanically awesome.
The 2nd graders made and epic amount of play dough in preparation for making 3D modelsnof the Earth and it's inner layers.
Making play dough took measuring, teamwork, and division... and it was so fun!
The kiddos eagerly drew diagrams of Earth's layers in preparation for making 3D models...
After finishing a Magic School Bus chapter book about volcanoes and learning about the layers of the Earth, the next logical step was... making volcanoes!
